The old saying "Busy as a beaver," doesn't necessarily mean busy beavers get things done on time. It's possible for beavers and people to be very busy, but not very productive. In this book for children ages 6 and up, Lando Banager, a beaver with an uncanny ability to get things done on time, shares his secrets of Project Management with his new beaver colony. As children read along they not only pick up the key words and concepts of Project Management, but see why it's important to plan out a project. Lando takes his colony through a Project Management Plan to build their dam and a lodge before the snow flies and the wolves come. Colorful illustrations of both the beavers and their management plan make it easy for kids to follow along. Best read with an adult who can answer questions, but entertaining as well as educational.

Before the Snow Flies Lando Banager Tales of a Woodland Project Manager eBook Ira Seiken Asuka Forest Becky Blanton

This book is a good starting point for children to begin to understand the concepts involved in planning projects, be they smaller projects in the classroom, or larger ones - like building a beaver dam. Even if they may never become project managers, there are essential life skills they can take away from this book and apply to their daily lives.

I would agree with the author's comment that the book is best read with an adult to answer questions. There are quite a few good lessons that although supported by the story and the chapter summaries, will definitely benefit from an adult's experience for younger readers. There are many concepts that are best explored when questions come from the children and are brought into an open discussion - but that is the nature of learning and exploring.

I can see this as a great tool in the primary classroom setting, with the teacher reviewing the story and concepts with the children and applying Lando's lessons to in-class projects over a period of time.

Lando and his Beaver friends provide a good demonstration of working through a number of project management processes and tools, while keeping the story fun and engaging for younger readers.

Well done!

It is a great book. I recommend it to anyone starting a project. The end of chapter lessons are great
Problem solving skills learned by example. Wonderful for younger children to read and take on a project of their own.
Well done conveying the basic concepts and there value in a manner that all can relate to. Laid out nicely how a bit of time up front gives you a means to manage when you'll finish and makes visible ways to shorten the effort. Liked the part at the end where it acknowledges many times we are thinking about most of this anyhow even on the really small efforts.
